An innovative new French-language radio show for Ottawa-Gatineau’s Black community is now on the airwaves at CHUO 89.1FM. Hosted by Vlad Jean-Gilles aka Don Ayiti, this new program, called Les Intrepides, was made possible with funding support from BILINGUAL OTTAWA.
In his new role, Vlad plans on bringing his radio savvy to the airwaves, shaping the sound of new program and mentoring volunteer contributors in media development and delivery.
Vlad comes with an impressive list of accomplishments and is no stranger to CHUO’s airwaves. Alongside Kevin Bourne, aka KB The Boss, and the station’s staff, Vlad is a founding member of The Morning Shift, Ottawa’s only hip-hop morning show. In addition to that, he is a regular columnist for CBC, an editor for SHIFTER Magazine and also runs an Instagram page, @BlackLenz, a passion project sharing Black film picks.
“Having worked with Vlad during the launch of The Morning Shift, I can say without hesitation that his boundless energy, professionalism, and creative drive are sure to nurture an environment of like minded creators — bringing something exceptional to 89.1 FM in January,” says Station Manager Erin Flynn.
Vlad shares his excitement for the new venture stating, “It’s such an honour for me to be a part of this initiative. I believe that we are going to do great things for the region, but also for our audience.”
“Bilingualism should be celebrated. The francophone community should be celebrated. This is ultimately what we are doing with this program.” adds Vlad.
Not only is the show hosted by Vlad Jean-Gilles, but he is also joined by three amazing local creators, French hip-hop artist Timal Garnier, spoken word poet Riya, entrepreneur, and event host Innoce Gbag along with TV host and journalist Clelia Diamani.
Les Intrepides airs every weekday from 4PM to 6PM on CHUO 89.1 FM.
