Spencer and Alicia

The episode opens with Spencer and mama Grace having breakfast. Alicia is over as Denise begins transforming Spencer’s room into a craft room which is a surprise to Spencer. He’s clearly annoyed and leaves them to their project. Later, Grace has a change of heart about changing Spencer’s room and then asks Alicia what time she and Spencer would be getting to Liv’s ceremony. Clearly Alicia is caught off guard because Spencer never planned to go and had planned a date night with her. When she sees Spence at the Beach house, he’s surprised she’s changing their plans. He says he didn’t keep the info from her because he thought it was a family thing. Alicia tells Spence they should go and that it wouldn’t be awkward for her and Olivia because it was Olivia who helped get them back together. Spencer is taken aback by this news but Alicia reminds him that the Vortex supports wins and losses.

Layla’s work-life balance

Meanwhile, Jordan wants to spend time with Layla but she is overbooked with work. Layla is struggling with all her current responsibilities and the lack of team members. She meets with her dad for a brief brunch and he agrees to work with her as she goes about her day. He also takes the time to remind her to find balance while building her career. Layla is reminded time is fleeting, leading her to reconnect with Jordan before Spring break is over.

Jordan is big brother of the year

It’s Olivia’s award night and she’s struggling to write her speech. Jordan tries to encourage her to complete it and get out of her head. Jordan helps to her ground herself in who she is by taking her to a dance class. That’s where she would always find a release. Her and Jordan are having fun until the choreographer tells her to keep going and she freezes stating later that it reminded her of what Billy would say to her. Jordan is the ultimate big brother and encourages her to continue doing just that.

There’s a new star on campus

Dr. Gutenberg, GAU’s president, shows up on the field. He’s upset because he heard that GAU brought back an ex-con. He tells Spencer that Boosters aren’t happy. With Coach Kenny off recruiting, the team is led by student volunteers. He warns that the program is prestigious and not a charity case. Later, Sal tells Spence that Marco Galvez is in town training with him while taking a break from his Florida team. Marco reveals that the team wanted to use his sexuality to boost the team’s image as inclusive but he wasn’t having it; he just wants to play and not be the face of any campaign. Spence teaches him how to ground himself and later he makes a decision to recommit to GAU.

Patience changes her tune

Patience is at the studio with Layla preparing for an interview about her Fire and Ice Tour. Patience is not feeling  he new version of herself and misses her boho roots. She later meets with Skye who helps with her interview. They talk about her and Coop’s relationship being a little rocky but agree to not talk given the ‘ex’ situation. The interviewer is not feeling old Patience and says her fans are loving this new filter loving Patience who’s giving makeup tutorials to fans. When Patience expresses she wants to go back to her roots and send out a message of acceptance of self, Skye asks her what this album would sound like in her indie style. Patience doesn’t hesitate and sings a new version of Fire and Ice. She later presents her idea of changing the album to Layla and she’s fully on board saying she hasn’t seen Patience this happy. Later, Skye makes a move on Patience and it isn’t well received, but the moment may be cemented in time with the help of the sneaky super fan.

Liv honors Billy

At the awards ceremony, Liv is nervous and feeling the pressure. The awards begin and Liv wins for Excellence in Sports Journalism. Liv honours her father with the award and her speech. Spencer tells Liv how proud he is of her and she asks how he keeps going in the face of so much loss. He gives her some timely advice reminding her time isn’t promised and kisses her on the cheek. Liv is all smiles. The episode closes with Liv hanging her dad’s jersey in her room alongside her awards.
