With The Vortex’s Spring Break plans in jeopardy, Spencer takes them to Italy. Kinda. Here’s our All American Season 6 Episode 11 recap.

Written by Adrian Dukes, this episode sees Spencer and company at Crenshaw High getting their Shakespeare on. Let’s take a closer look.

Spring Break plans aborted

This episode opens with Preach, Spencer, Amina and  her new ‘boyfriend’ Bryce at Crenshaw High. Amina is now 15 years old and starring in the 24 hours of Shakespeare event. Spencer loves the idea, but never got to do it when he was at the school. Deion is also a part of the event trying to figure out his life after football. Spencer wishes he could stay and watch the performance, but the group has a couples trip planned for their Spring Break. However, the couple’s trip ends before it begins because Jordan books the wrong week, so Spencer suggests that they help out the kids at South Crenshaw instead.

Coop gets Justice for Patience

Meanwhile Coop is prepping for Miko’s trial which is finally set to begin. She’s still pushing for the records to be opened, but Laura is still against it. It turns out Miko has turned down the plea deal offered and may walk. Patience is torn and can’t believe her life has come to this. Coop is determined to get justice by any means and takes a trip to the court surprising Miko’s parents with the information she knows and a surprise witness who can tear apart the whole case. In the end Miko takes the plea deal and the trial and this ordeal is finally over.

Asher and Jaymee’s staycation

Jaymee and Asher were to also go on the group, trip but decide on a romantic staycation instead. They agree to not mention AJ, but in true parent fashion, that proves easier said than done. When Jaymee gets called into work, Asher goes to Crenshaw where he talks with Olivia and learns from her and Spencer’s experience what’s needed to get in sync with Jaymee. He later plans a romantic dinner date where they plan on getting to know each other better on every level.

Three ‘muskarettes’ together again

The three ‘muskarettes’ are back in action. Denise makes an appearance along with Grace to help Laura get back in the dating scene. She doesn’t feel ready, but gets the courage to meet someone new. While on the date she can’t help but focus on what is happening at the trial and when she realizes what she’s doing, she makes an awkward attempt to get to know her date Luke. Denise and Grace show up at the restaurant to reassure her she deserves this next step in her life.

Jordayla’s wedding

Layla and Jordan separately get notices about their wedding venue being available early. Both don’t want to talk about it because they agreed to wait but Olivia and Spencer push them to talk and figure out what they really want. They keep stalling and further realize that they each just want to move ahead and be married. In the end they finally connect and choose each other.

Romeo and Juliet

The crew working on Shakespeare is having some difficulty pulling it all together. Amina and Bryce are set to play Romeo and Juliet, but of course Preach isn’t feeling his daughter in this role with a boy. Deion and Khalil are also having trouble getting along and are finding it difficult to play friends. Spencer and Jordan get paired with the boys to help them get through their scenes. Khalil can’t get over Deion quitting football and, therefore, quits on him and the program. Deion realizes he really wants to act and Spencer jumps in to help him realize his ability. Khalil returns and the two discuss their differences and restore their relationship.

The episode ends with Spencer realizing he’s about to leave South Crenshaw behind and take the next step in his life and career. He’s excited and scared for it, but is ultimately ready.

I will say this recap was a hard one to write because I didn’t love this episode. I understand the need for filler episodes, but with a shortened season, we could have used a different direction or even a real Spring Break, especially with the draft coming up. I mean, they live in L.A. and we hardly ever get them on the beach in their hometown.  At the end of the day, I’m not in the writer’s room so this is just my opinion. I will say I loved hearing Daniel finally speak in his British accent though. Onward to draft day!

All American airs Mondays at 8pm on the CW.
