The Vortex celebrates Spencer’s 21st birthday as whole bunch of shenanigans ensue. Here’s our All American Season 6 Episode 4 recap.

Tonight’s episode was written by popular writing duo Mike Herro and David Strauss who are known for writing for shows geared towards more “youthful” audiences. They’ve also been writing for All American since Season 1, building a reputation for writing fun and memorable episodes.

Here’s a look at what went down on the latest episode of All American.

Spencer’s wild night

We begin with a sweet throwback to his 17th birthday with corn muffins but Olivia’s way. Spencer meets with his mom and Dillon for breakfast and has his ‘so called’ first taste of alcohol. We’re then given a taste of what Spencer experienced for his birthday celebrations which all goes downhill very fast. Spencer wakes up at Wade’s house and quickly seeks out Coop to help him figure out what happened the night before. She talks him into retracing his steps so he can remember and hopefully find the special gift that Olivia got him which he swears is lost.

Jordayla’s tension

Jordan shows up to his Baker home hungover and finds Olivia getting ready for her day of reminiscing for her book. Layla enters and immediately we see the tension between the two love birds. Layla was checking on him but he wasn’t communicating. He’s salty that she’s too busy to plan and she thinks he’s being childish. Later, when Liv encourages Jordan to talk it out with Layla, the two find some common ground.

Wade’s new leaf

Wade is back now taking his orders from Asher. Clearly tensions are high and Asher is laying down the law. Wade is fighting back and it’s not clear he’s a changed man. Wade surprises us all when he takes in Spence during his drunken night out before he gets into real trouble.

Jordan’s memory lane

Liv and Jordan take a trip down Jordan’s memory lane. He shares stories with Liv and we learn more about Billy’s parenting and connection to his son. Jordan tells the story of overcoming a bully while at a park he and his dad used to frequent. Turns out this park was a place of peace and perspective for Billy. Liv praises Jordan for being recognized as a Heisman hopeful and wants him to know how proud she is, and how proud their dad would be. Jordan tries to downplay it but takes it in.

Coop’s swerve

Coop is assisting Spencer the entire day to help jog his memory but it’s also a way for her to avoid Patience. Patience was ready to make a move on Coop but she wasn’t having it. She really wants to talk things out. Good on her for taking the mature route.

Spencer’s wilin’

Spencer’s antics were such a welcomed break from the drama that is All American. He bar hops with his boys embracing turning 21. By the time he gets to Layla’s he’s out of it and takes jabs at Jordan whenever he can. In the end, he has a truthful conversation about what’s been happening between them. He makes it back to Olivia to face the music that he has lost her gift and she reveals that it could never get lost in the first place.

All American airs Mondays at 8pm on the CW.
