In possibly the most anticipated film release of the year (maybe ever), the release of the Avengers: End Game trailer is leaving fans emotional and desperate to learn more on how the franchise will come to an end this April 26.
In the final adaption to the Avengers’ multi-billion dollar franchise, the trailer (released today) starts with our heroes heartbroken and exhausted, following the mass extinction that took place during Avengers: Infinity War.
There were exceptional lengths taken to not include a single spoiler by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only making fans more desperate for answers.
Tony Stark starts the trailer off with a voice-over, stating: “It seems like a thousand years ago I fought my way out of that cave… became Iron Man.” The line is a reference to the full circle we have come — watching our superheroes that we’ve grown with, who we love and adore, finally come to a close.
Teasing emotional scenes from the original Iron Man (the first movie in the series), Thor and Captain America, the trailer is keen on pulling the heartstrings of loyal fans.
One of the most compelling things about the promotion of End Game so far is how little the trailers reveal about the actual movie itself. With the release of the second trailer (technically, the third trailer, considering the Super Bowl one featured as much new footage, and arguably more information than this trailer) it’s worth admiring how little is known about the next Avengers movie — with only a little over a month to go before release.
However, they can’t hide everything, as the little that we do learn from the trailer is:
— Ant-Man, Rocket and Captain Marvel join the Avengers
— Hawkeye is back (the scene with his daughter may suggest he lost all of his loved ones) and he has an edgy new mohawk
— Black Widow’s hair is red again
— Nebula and Stark make it back to Earth at some point
— Peggy Carter’s, A.K.A. Captain America’s old fling, voice over holds some deeper meaning
“The world has changed. None of us can go back,” we hear Carter say alongside a scene of Steve Rogers before he became Captain America. “All we can do is our best, and sometimes the best we can do is to start over.”
Near the end, all the heroes can be seen in identical white armored suites — the Avengers symbol decorating the chests of everyone — and if you look close enough you can see Stark lined up among them. Like everything Marvel does, there must be a purpose behind letting this detail slip.
Marvel saved the best scene for the very end though, as the last moments of the trailer show Captain Marvel and Thor staring each other down. His attempt to phase Captain Marvel by summoning his hammer a few inches from her face fell short, and he simply states, “I like this one.”
