SHIFTER founder and editor-in-chief, Kevin Bourne, was named one of 310 international voters for the 81st Golden Globe Awards. Here’s the full story.

Last month, The Golden Globes® announced an expanded voting body for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards set to take place January 7, 2024 in Beverley Hills. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association added 215 international voters, who alongside the current 95 members, make up a body of 310 voters from all over the world.

The voting body is made up of 25% Latinx, 14% Asian, 10% Black, 9% Middle Eastern and 42% White, with at least
17% of the voting body self-identifying as LGBTQIA+. With the new additions, the Golden Globes exceeded their recruitment goal.

“We have exceeded our goal of reaching 300 voters for the upcoming 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards thanks to an extensive global recruitment effort,” said Helen Hoehne, President of the HFPA. “We are excited at the unprecedented achievement in building a truly global voting body where 58% self-identify
as ethnically diverse.”

Among the new international voters is SHIFTER founder and editor-in-chief, Kevin Bourne.

“I’m very excited to represent Canada, the Black community, and SHIFTER as a member of the Golden Globe Awards international voting body. It’s a big honour “, Bourne notes. “I also congratulate the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for taking steps towards becoming even more diverse, especially by adding Black voters to the fold. There’s been a call for more diversity and the Golden Globes responded.”

The criteria for international voters include residing outside of the U.S. and possessing verified
entertainment journalistic clippings for international media outlets including print, broadcast, radio,
photography and online. These applications were reviewed and qualified by the Credentials Committee,
which is composed of a majority of outside independent journalism and entertainment industry
professionals.
