TYLER PERRY’S SISTAS SEASON 7 EPISODE 1 (PREMIERE) RECAP

Andi and Gary clash again as new romances bloom. Here’s our recap of Tyler Perry’s Sistas Season 7 Episode 1, aka season seven premiere.

After wrapping up season six in late December, season seven of Tyler Perry’s Sistas is already back and fans are in an uproar. It looks like Trinity Whiteside (Preston) and Anthony Dalton (Calvin) may have been written off the show, while Branden Wellington (Tony) is now a series regular and the character of Jordan has been recast (Personally, I’m not feeling the Jordan).

The show also has a different feel now that there’s a new writing team after Tyler Perry wrote the first six seasons himself. Where Tyler Perry tends to write long scenes, the show now has shorter scenes which has some viewers feeling a bit confused with all the jumping around. They are right in that the scenes jump around quixkly, especially in the early part of the episode as all the characters are reintroduced.

Now let’s a look at this episode’s highlights.

Danni and Tony are official

It was just a dream. The episode opens with Danni waking up from a dream recalling her being attacked in the airport parking lot as we saw at the end of season six. Her and Tony are in bed as she recovers from her dream. It’s a really good way of transitioning from the events of last season to this season which takes place three months in the future. Later, Tony calls Sabrina to come over to Danni’s house to talk to her about her trauma and the need for therapy.

Andi and Gary clash

Andi and Jordan are still going strong although Jordan has been recast and the new portrayal is a bit cheesy. Andi and Jordan are getting frisky in the kitchen while waiting for Penelope to arrive for dinner. When she does arrive she’s not alone―she’s on Gary’s arm. How she was able to forgive Gary after everything we learned in season six is anyone’s guess.

Still, it looks like there’s trouble in paradise between Gary and Penelope as she still looks a bit uncomfortable when he tries to kiss her. Gary isn’t having it though and accuses Andi of having an ulterior motive for inviting them over. Andi explains that she invited them over because Jordan misses his sister and wants to eliminate any tension between them. We later learn that Jordan is running for city council with aspirations to run for mayor. It’s unclear what his motives are, but Gary makes a $100,000 donation to his campaign.

Later, when Penelope checks on Gary, she finds him masturbating in Andi’s bathroom. Along with his past bahavior, this is beyond disgusting. The man is sick.

Karen’s new salon

Karen, who finally has a baby bump, and Pam are seen in the new salon which is almost ready to open. Pam, who is becoming a social media influencer, is trying to drum up some hype in anticipation of the opening. This episode we learn that Brian the contractor and his wife are separated and having marriage problems. Pam seems to think Karen is the reason and she probably isn’t wrong.

Sabrina returns to work

Sabrina and Maurice talk on the phone as Sabrina is back at work. When Sabrina asks whether Maurice and Calvin will be spending a night out on the town, Maurice confides that Calvin moved out and ran off with a white woman (which has fans believing he has been written off the show). Maurice says that Calvin couldn’t see Sabrina before he left because she would end up staying. Just when Maurice questions whether she’ll fall in love again, Rich pulls up to her office. She isn’t that worried about Calvin as she’s up in the office making out with her man.

Maurice seems a bit useless as a character which is sad because he was once a beloved character who was one of the reasons viewers tuned in every week. They need to either give him a good story or write him off and bring back Preston.

Michael in foster care

Michael is in foster care after Heather called the police on Zatima for taking Michael at the end of last season. Fatima reassures Zac that they’ll get custody of him eventually but Zac is still stressing.
