This past weekend NFL stars Marshawn Lynch, also known as Beastmode, Marcus Peters and Josh Johnson were in Ottawa to put on a free Break The Plane football camp for 10-18 year-old kids and youth in the region.
Their visit to the capital started on Friday afternoon with meet and greet event at Ottawa’s premiere streetwear store, NRML. The event included a barber competition and a chance to play the NFLers in Madden 18. NRML also unveiled their NRML x Beastmode apparel collaboration, including hats and hoodies. They then moved on to the official afterparty at ppl. nightclub in the Byward Market.
Saturday morning was the main event, the football camp, held at University of Ottawa’s Matt Anthony Field. Hundreds of children and youth were in attendance to learn from a few of the NFL’s stars. CFL and University of Ottawa players were also enlisted to run drills with participants.
Although it was open to youth from across the city, the camp prioritized youth from low-income families. Meals and snacks were provided. Event partners included Ottawa Community Housing, the OCH Foundation and the University of Ottawa’s 1881 Football Alumni Association. The camp was sponsored by Lynch, Johnson, and Peters’ Fam1st Family Foundation, founded in 2006 to improve the lives of children by mentoring them on the importance of education, literacy and self-esteem.
