The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, also known as CES, has come and gone. Hundreds of tech companies descended on Sin City to show off some of their latest gadgets and technologies. Although, Canada’s capital isn’t known as a hotbed for consumer electronics, Ottawa has seen some growth in recent years with the popularity of the world famous Instant Pot and the increasing importance of autonomous vehicles.
This year, there were a number of Ottawa companies making their presence felt at CES 2020, including Kanata-based Blackberry QNX.
In a recent Invest Ottawa blog post, Sean Hazaray of Karma Automotive noted:
“Ottawa is a really unique city that has a lot of expertise in automotive software development,” Hazaray says. “It’s very special. It’s fronted by Blackberry QNX, and it’s grown because of a wave of startups that are all focused on automotive interior software. There are a lot of unique niche firms that specialize in this sector. It makes it a very attractive place for a company like us coming up north. I always come back because there’s a pride and quality here. I trust that the quality is going to be really good.”
According to the Ottawa Business Journal, Ottawa will also be getting a late Christmas present. At CES 2020, Illinois-based company AutonomouStuff announced they would be opening a research facility in the capital.
