Rising Ottawa hip-hop producer Deflare Beats team up with some of the west end’s finest for West Side Freestyle.

If you follow the Ottawa hip-hop scene you’ve heard of Deflare Beats, one of the city’s promising up and coming hip-hop producers. For the past few years, he’s been working out of the Real House of Ensemble recording studio in Ottawa’s Byward Market, working with Ottawa’s up and coming artists. Under the mentorship of City Fidelia, Jeff Sanon and Abe Abedi, he’s been growing in his craft and perfecting his sound, even helping to work on a recent Lays commercial featuring Fidelia.

He recently took to Instagram to announce a new three-song project Welcome To My City. The project includes three freestyles featuring artists from the East, West and South ends of Ottawa.

“3 music videos. 1 for each ends of my city. I’m letting y’all decide which one you want me to drop first.”

After asking his followers which one he should drop first, Deflare recently released the West Side Freestyle featuring FkDaDon, TkMN, FTG Reggie, Santii 1Hunnit, AL Santos, Lowkey Gwap and J5.

With co-production from Mon and Ctone, the song includes melodic bars as the artists take turns singing about life in the streets. Then comes a beat change to a up tempo production with heavy drums as the artists float on the beat showing their versatility.

The freestyle comes with high energy visuals by shot by Fenti Films and directed Fenti and Deflare, showcasing the west end of Ottawa. Google Earth clips are used to transport viewers to the different neighbourhoods represented by the rappers. The warm tones soon give way to black and white as the beat changes, switching up the mood of the video.

The Welcome To My City freestyles are a lead up to the release of Deflare’s long-awaited debut album. In the mean time, check out the new video and let us know what you think.
