ALL AMERICAN SEASON 6 EPISODE 10

all american season 6 episode 10

Spencer feels the pressure of the NFL combine while Olivia is on baby duty. Here’s our All American Season 6 Episode 10 recap.

This episode opens in the James home with Spencer and his mom meeting with Coach Bryan, Agent Eric’s uncle. He notes that Spencer being raised by a single mom couldn’t be easy. Spencer shares that his mom is his hero and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He says if he answers as well as he did with him at the upcoming NFL Combine, he will be a top five pick for sure.

At the Baker home the next morning, Laura plans a small breakfast send off for Spencer. Asher, Jaymee and baby AJ are giving their well wishes when Jordan and Layla walk in. Jordan’s only concern is that no one has responded to his invite to Layla’s first brunch at the lounge. Liv offers to babysit AJ so Jaymee and Asher can attend but everyone is hesitant because it’s known that AJ doesn’t seem to get along with her. In the end they agree because mama Laura will be around to help.

Asher gets a notice about Coach Montes being offered an NFL position and is therefore leaving Coastal. He is avoiding his calls the whole time trying to focus on family. At brunch, Jaymee shares her love of serving and then offers to give Jordan a hand after the bartender quits. She has so much fun she offers to return the next day. Asher is happy to see her enjoying her time helping out and wishes she could do more without worrying about him. Asher isn’t sure what he’s chasing anymore but is truly having a rough time facing Coach Montes leaving. After a little pep talk from Liv and a chat with an old mentor, Asher is reminded that he has the opportunity to say goodbye to him.

Jordan, though excited for Layla’s first brunch, is also worried about how much stress is on Layla. He convinces her to take the day off and let him handle everything. She reluctantly agrees but uses the time to go to the studio and complete her homework on her struggles and successes. When she hears brunch has some rough moments, she returns to handle things but is pleasantly surprised to see Jaymee has everything under control. She offers Jaymee the manager position so she can focus on herself.

Liv’s babysitting adventures definitely start off with good intentions. She’s doing everything she can to gain AJ’s affection. Her mom steps in and says she was the same way and to just be herself allowing her to connect naturally with him. She also takes the time to ask if she has spoken to Spencer at the combine. She recalls when Billy was there and how grueling it was because it’s the NFL’s chance to test players and their ability to handle stress. Later, Olivia’s time with AJ gives her the direction she needs with her book.

Spencer arrives in Indianapolis ready for the combine. He is met with Gordan who steps in as his rep and guide for the next few days. He’s joined by Darnell and Wade who have to remind him this is the dream. Spencer rises early to meet with teams. He is grilled about his past, his upbringing, his girlfriend and why he quit. By his last meeting he loses his cool. When Gordan meets him again, he tells him they are pushing him and he has to play the game and of course Spencer is not having it. Darnell advises him to loosen up and remember that as a kid from Crenshaw, he shouldn’t even be there. Spencer decides to take it easy but gets the best surprise visit from his better half. Liv offers him the best advice to be himself and reminds him he’s a great pick and deserves to be there. Spencer handles his next set of interviews like a champ and proves he’s ready to be there. He even gives one of his famous Spencer James speeches to remind the boys that they are more than just boys to be picked apart but examples for the next generation.

This episode was a 10/10 in my opinion, the writing (shout out to Robert Doty), the directing (shout out to Dawn Wilkinson), the acting, the pacing like my God, even baby AJ was absolutely perfect. Also Cody had me feeling everything in that final scene. It was a beautiful send off for Coach Montes – he will be missed.

Before I signoff, I want to say Congrats to the entire Cast and Crew on their Renewal for Season 7. I was really questioning whether this would be the last season but they pulled it out and I get another Season to enjoy. Now I hear the entire cast may not be returning but I’m hopeful that we’ll get some solid closure for most characters. I know I would love to see Spencer’s first year in the NFL, married to Olivia and watching them navigate life but who knows. Either way I’m happy for everyone involved.

All American airs Mondays at 8pm on the CW.
