On the eve of the National Championship game, Spencer, Jordan and Asher take a trip down memory lane. Here’s our 100th episode, All American Season 6 Episode 9 recap.
I was so excited for tonight’s episode and so proud of this show for making it to 100 episodes. This show does not get the recognition it deserves, so tonight I want to give some accolades. Best Cast goes to All American, Best Lead Actor goes to All American, Best Drama goes to All American.
As a Black person who has grown up on both Young Adult dramas and Black series, this show came into my life at a time where I needed to see more representation on television. Once I started watching and never looked back. I have purchased episodes (because we don’t get to view this content for too long in Canada), read all the fanfics and became a tweeting superfan on Monday nights. It has meant so much to me and my family who gathers weekly around the TV to watch. I truly hope that everyone who has been a part of this show knows how special it is. Oh and PS: Daniel Ezra is a star and deserves a long and fruitful career!
Now, let’s take a look at the highlights from All American Season 6 Episode 9, aka the 100th episode.
Spencer’s dream
The episode opens with a blast from the past via Spencer’s reoccuring dream of Shawn telling him to get up, reminding him that he has somewhere else to be. Waking up because Spencer is having trouble sleeping, Olivia pushes him to figure out what’s going on so he can have a clear mind for the Championship game. The two are sharing a bed because waking up next to each other was on their bucket list. So cute.
Olivia’s book in jeopardy?
Olivia gets a call from her publisher about her book coming off as boring. Liv’s publisher is pushing to have the affair included and Liv is not sure at first which way to go. Laura doesn’t want this to rehash old wounds, but reminds herself that she can pick up the pieces. In the end, Liv decides to follow her heart and keep true to the heart of her father’s legacy.
Coop’s investigation
Laura is not only dealing with Liv and her book but also Coop and new information about Miko. Coop is determined to find out the truth about Miko’s past. She discovers that she has arrest files that have been sealed. Further investigation reveals that Miko’s stalker behaviour didn’t start with Patience and likely won’t end there. Laura is concerned that Coop is in over her head and whether she’s really ready for a career in law.
Layla’s plan
Layla is journaling about her current thoughts, which include marriage but it’s not going well. She has split her focus again and is scared to address her wedding nerves. Jordan wants her to only focus on her health and nothing else. A conversation with Charissa makes her question how things are really going with Jordan. Layla decides she wants to do a surprise wedding at the club out of a fear of losing him. In the end, Jordan finds Layla before she can execute her plan and reminds her that they are in it for the long haul.
Grace’s gift
With Spencer’s dream, he finds himself back in Crenshaw where his Mom gives him a special gift, leading Spencer to revisit all the fields he once played on. He meets with Chris at Billy Baker Field where Chris reminds him of the weight he’s carrying, not just for himself but for all of them. At Beverly, he meets with Asher who mentions that Wade is also feeling the weight of the game and all that’s riding on it. Spencer is ultimately realizing that as much as he tries to deny it, the game, the draft, and his future are all weighing on him.
Asher’s final game?
The Championship game is the highlight of tonight’s episode. It’s a culmination of all of Spencer’s hard work over the years and his last college game before the NFL Draft. The game is intense as Coastal and GAU fight through challenges to get a win. When Coastal loses its wide receiver, Asher steps onto the field surprising everyone. With the final play for GAU, Spencer wants GAU to bring their heart into the game which is at war with Mac’s analytics. In the end, Coach Kenny sides with Spencer and they get the outcome they deserved. After breaking his promise to Jaymee, Asher is on the receiving end of a big hit. He later apologizes to Jaymee who after seeing him on the field, now understands why he he needs to play football. But after getting back on the field one more time, Asher realizes his dream has changed.
Spelivia’s new life
Celebrations at Layla’s bring about the next steps in Spencer and Olivia’s lives. Spencer is so grateful for Olivia’s presence and ability to give him exactly what he needs when he needs it. He takes the next step by asking her to move in with him, and of course she accepts.
All American airs Mondays at 8pm on the CW.
Tweets of the night
Need to know where Coach Kenny was this whole time, weird to have him just show up on the sideline in the championship. #AllAmerican
