Executive produced by Sean Combs, Voletta Wallace, Mark Pitts, Stanley Buchthal, and Emmett and Brendan Malloy, Biggie: I Got A Story To Tell is an intimate look at Christopher Wallace the man through the eyes of those who knew him best.
Through rare behind the scenes footage shot by long-time friend Damion “D-Roc” Butler and interviews with close family and friends, Biggie the rap superstar gives way to Christopher, the sometimes quiet and shy son and friend.
The film also takes us on a deep dive into the many influences that helped him become the rap superstar he eventually became, from his Jamaican heritage and his resulting love for country music and his relationship with his grandmother and musician uncle (who both appear in the film), to his relationship with jazz musician and mentor Donald Harrison which would influence his unique flow and cadence.
We are also given a front row seat into his ascent from street corner crack dealer and rap battler who wasn’t always sure of himself and his budding rap career to songwriter and hip-hop superstar. Along the way, we see him grappling with the everyday pressures of being a young father, dealing with his mother’s battle with breast cancer, his friction with former friend Tupac Shakur, and having to top his successful debut project Ready to Die. This film and Biggie’s battle with uncertainty will be a guaranteed source of inspiration to anyone who is on the journey to pursuing a dream and trying to figure it out.
While the film eventually tackles his murder, it is more so a celebration of his life and is a reminder that while the world loved and lost one of the greatest musical talents of all time, there was a small group of people that loved and lost the man they simply knew as “Christopher” or “Big”.
