The Canadian music scene continues to heat up as a number of artists dropped new singles and music videos. Here’s a look at some of the recent Canadian releases.

TOBi | “Keep From Falling”

TOBi came with some Maxwell vibes on “Keep From Falling”. Featuring a beautiful falsetto and a lot of soul, TOBi’s versatility as an artist is mind boggling. He’s a musical Swiss army knife who can do everything, from rap to singing, at a high level. His ceiling is endless and he is easily amazing the most talented artists in Canada. Adding to the beauty of this song is the production and instrumentation, including horns and saxophones. Simply put, this song is perfection.

WARNING: If you’re an artist, listening to this might cause you to reconsider your career choice.

CHARMAINE FEAT. PARIS RICHARDS | “JEEZ Remix”

Charmaine released the long awaited music video to the remixed version of her song “JEEZ” featuring fellow Toronto hip-hop queen Paris Richards. The colorful, wacky visuals match Charmaine’s playful tone in the song, while at the same time making her appear menacing both visually and through her voice.

With Toronto hip-hop being known partly for politics and division, it’s nice to see two of the city’s leading female artists coming together and blessing fans with a collab. This video oozes strength, sex appeal and being unapologetic about who you are.

TKMN | “Mafia”

Over to Ottawa for the latest from TkMN who released his new single “Mafia” accompanied with a music video where the artist is experiencing luxury and the finer things with flashy addictive visuals. The song itself flows brilliantly, and the artist’s tone and vocals brings a sort of “Baby Keem” vibe to the song, which is undoubtedly a compliment for one of the capital’s most promising young artists.

LIYAH KATANA | “STR8”

Liyah Katana proved once again why she is an artist the whole world needs to keep an eye on as she makes her way up to the top. Her new track “STR8” exemplifies her strongest attributes so well, with the beauty of her voice for all to witness. Combined with the empowering music video and Katana’s heartfelt lyrics, its certain that any viewer will leave this experience having felt its effect.

DORESSA | “Curtains”

DORESSA recently dropped her single “Curtains”, her first release under her new deal with House of Ensemble. It’s raw, gritty and beautiful all at the same time, as she sings about heartbreak. Her style is reminiscent of Savannah Ré and if her placement on Spotify’s Mood Ring playlist is any indication, she’s already on the radar of the industry and on her way to success in her own right.

PRIVATE NAME PRIVATE NUMBER FEAT WILL RYTE | “FROSTY”

This track is fire with an underlying message that a lavish life comes at a cost. It has a nice groove and international vibe to it that will make you want to either bob your head or get on the dance floor with that special someone. Making the track even better is two rising Toronto area artists in PNPN and Will Ryte jumping on a track together.

SPITTY AND EVERYTHINGOSHAUN | “Up Now”

Brampton is in the building. Spitty and EverythingOShauN came through with some dope flows and a catchy beat on “Up Now” landing them on Spotify’s Northern Bars playlist. The pair blessed us with a nice likkle chune to play at the block party this summer.

FRIYIE | “Before I Go”

You can always trust Friyie for music with meaning. You can tell he puts his heart into his music and doesn’t waste any words. You can hear that on his latest single “Before I Go”. The songwriting is beautiful and heartfelt and this is matched by the sincerity and quality of his vocals.

WISE | “The Precipice”

Bars for days. After a brief hiatus where he was seemingly living his best life, Toronto artist WISE returned with “The Precipice”. In a time where a lot of artists are doing the melodic thing, WISE is spitting.

Where in the past he’s given us videos with big production and storylines, this is a simple yet well done black and white video that allows you to focus on what he’s saying instead of being distracted by the visuals.
