Ottawa and Toronto rappers unite on ALLCAPYOW’s new album “Ottawa x Toronto” which pairs bars and melodies from Ottawa and Toronto artists.
The world of underground music can often feel like an individualistic fight to survive. With artists clamoring for attention, trying to be seen outside of their niches and cities. While some still view the underground scene as a place of solace, others are hungry for more, working with fellow underground talent to gain fans and exposure.
ALLCAPYOW’s new project Ottawa x Toronto brings together 22 artists from Ontario two biggest cities on 12 tracks. Repping Toronto on the project are Casper, Duvy, 3MFrench, K Money, Road Runner, Golde London, Lil Berete, Young Smoke, LocoCity and Dutchess. From the capital there is Badda, FTG Reggie, Lindasson, Eazy Finesse, The LJ, KG Jay, GG Chevy, Dead Hendrix, OTG Stiffy, Nilla1Hunna, Sleepy13 and the late Lito.
The Ottawa and Toronto music industries are intertwined, with many Ottawa artists and producers moving to Toronto for bigger opportunities. Toronto is one of the world’s best music cities with many labels and reputable names nurturing the scene. Ottawa x Toronto amplifies both Ottawa and Toronto’s talent, getting them visibility in both cities and facilitating networking. The long-time artist and executive producer, J Creole, expressed that the goal is to help Ottawa talent get recognized in Toronto. However, the benefit doesn’t just lie in the hands of the capital’s artists. The networking between the artists could lead to more collaboration and many Toronto artists choose to perform in Ottawa since performing in their own city may attract street politics or harassment from the police.
Standout tracks from the album include “Never Switch” by FTG Reggie and Road Runner, which features catchy lyrics and great flow, “Win” by Casper, Eazy Finesse and GG Chevy, a laid-back track which allows each artist to showcase their vocals, and “Getting Rich” by Lil Berete, Nilla1hunna and KG Jay, which keeps it simple but meaningful. The 12 songs will be accompanied by six videos, some of which are already available, so make sure to check them out.
Ottawa x Toronto is available on all streaming platforms.
