R&B SINGER AMAAL MAKES A SWEET COMEBACK WITH HER NEW RELEASE “HONEY”

Fiercely celebrating womanhood, this edgy upbeat single represents a new chapter of freedom for Amaal. In the futuristic music video, the Somali Canadian singer-songwriter struts through an empty dungeon and lays on an examination table. As geometric LED lights scan her body, she discharges her alter ego, Milly. Directed by Montréal native film director Dan LeMoyne, Amaal graces the screen with poise, seduction and confidence to a caliber that has yet been seen by her.

It has been over a year since the Toronto-raised artist has released new music independently. Her last EP, Black Love, was highly acclaimed by fans from around the world. It even earned a nomination at 2020 Juno Award for R&B recording of the year. The six-track compilation encompassed vulnerability, love, and passion – showcasing her vocal range. It was through this ethereal toned album that her journey for self-discovery was heard. This vulnerable project contributed to her massive success over the past year. Today, she continues this journey to identity freedom, with a message that has helped her reclaim power, pleasure, and herself.

“Honey” is produced by Grammy-nominated duo Nicky and Davey, who has also worked with artists such as Beyoncé and Zayn. Nicky shared on Wednesday that the song almost did not get released, due to industry politics, and reminded creatives to always stay true to their vision regardless of what industry professionals say. Thankfully, Amaal and her team did just that. Within its first 24 hours of being released the 90s R&B nostalgic music video has garnered over 18k hits on YouTube.

Raised in a Muslim community and being the youngest of nine siblings, Amaal expresses that she was worried to fully express herself at first, but now she is raising her sexual liberation flag and is shedding away those stigmas from herself and for herself. As Amaal continues her journey to claiming her most authentic identity, it is clear that her dedicated fanbase will support her on this inspiring self-liberation journey.

Luckily for us, “Honey” is only the beginning of this chapter. During #HoneyHourLive, an Instagram Live, Amaal revealed that this is the first of many sensual tracks she plans on releasing.

Amal also recently announced that she plans to continue spreading her message– sharing her interceptions about womanhood in her sophomore album Milly later later this fall, a reference to her tantalizing  alter ego. The album is expected to showcase upbeat songs that will carry us to the dance floor.

“Honey” is now available on all streaming platforms. To check out the sexy visuals, click the featured image above.
