$VN [pronounced “Seven”] are back on the scene with their second release of the year, a heartfelt ode to the struggles of love, titled “Not True”. The independent Canadian R&B duo, based out of Toronto, is comprised of childhood friends nyXsun and SAGS. The song finds the duo exploring failed relationships and the push and pull that comes with falling deeply for someone. The duo lay it all out on the track providing melodic yet vulnerable verses and hooks on top of a rich musical backdrop courtesy of their friend and collaborator Jahmal Gittens (a go-to producer for artists such as Ramriddlz and Derin Falana among others).
About the song, SAGS says, “I’m proud of this one, we laid it all out in the open and you really get a sense of intimacy through the vocal performances. We wanted listeners to feel the words that we’re singing. Jahmal really set the mood with the production giving nyXsun and I the space to finesse the songwriting and engineering.”
The duo began releasing self-produced singles in 2018 and have been recognized for their contrasting yet complementary vocal styles. With only eight singles released to date, their genre-infusing music has charted on SoundCloud’s New and Hot Canadian R&B, and has caught the attention of music curators on Audiomack and has been featured on popular Spotify playlists with over 100K listeners. Along with their musical endeavours, they’re working on building their brand and collective, MØD. For 2020, they’ve set their focus on honing in on their sound and creating more visual content for their fans.
“Not True” is available on all major streaming platforms.
