REVIEW – BENITA DROPS VULNERABLE YET INSPIRATIONAL EP THE OTHER SIDE THROUGH THE HILLS

Toronto singer-songwriter Benita

Toronto singer-songwriter Benita is back with a vulnerable yet inspirational EP titled The Other Side Through The Hills.

Toronto native Benita had a big year in 2022. Not only did she release her EP Scarlet, which was not only well received by the media, the industry, her peers and fans alike, but she was also a writer on Jon Vinyl‘s Juno-nominated release “Palisade”, up for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.

Now she’s back with a new two-track EP titled The Other Side Through The Hills. Where Scarlet featured edgy tracks about love gone wrong, on “The Other Side”, with its strings and honest lyrics, she gets vulnerable about the pain, pressure and numbness she’s feeling. Meanwhile, “Through The Hills” includes an inspirational message about holding on just a bit longer when tempted call it quits. Together the songs provide a look at the ups and downs of life where one moment things can look bleak and the next moment things can look hopeful again.

For Benita, it was all about leaving listeners with some well-needed inspiration that things will get better.

“I wanted to end this 2-pack on a hopeful note because of how far I’ve come and how I’ve realized when things get bad…It makes room for bigger and better things. I hope to inspire others that the light you are anticipating will eventually peak through.”

Through her messaging and vocals, Benita balances both strength and a delicate vulnerability on the EP. We also see more of the vocal clarity and strong yet intimate songwriting she’s known for as she conveys emotions and messages audiences of all kinds can connect to.

After taking a listen, it’s clear why Benita is one Toronto artist and songwriter to be excited about.
