After a few years of dropping big singles like “How To Get It” and building a loyal fanbase along the way, Brampton rapper Ty’dre has finally dropped his long-awaited debut EP Purpose.
The five-song project opens with the previously released “We Up”– an empowering anthem about triumph and unity. As we wrote when it was released back in April, the song was inspired by his relationship with his close friends as he revisits the past while also looking ahead at his goals.
We then move on to “410”, which has both freestyled and written lyrics and is named after the highway that runs to and through Brampton, before moving on the “relationship tracks”, including “Take Some Time” which tackles tough subjects like confusion and betrayal.
“While making ‘Take Some Time’ I was able to pull experiences from those that were around me”, he explains.
The project closes with the outro “Thank You All”, a touching song written in response to a feeling of gratitude from a previous release where his fanbase rallied behind him to get the word out about a song.
What we hear throughout the project is Ty’dre’s blend of melodic hooks and lyrical verses that mark his signature sound, crafted with his main producers Tony Range and Drew80HD. The rapper and songwriter has a clear knack for creating timeless music with motivational messaging, all packaged in a modern contemporary sound. Simply put, Purpose is “thinking music” where Ty’dre puts his life experiences, from success to friendship and heartbreak, on display chalk full with lessons for us to learn from.
