Rappers, singer-songwriters, and R&B vocalists. There was a lot of talent on tap at filltheBLNK Session 9 in Toronto.
Over 100 artists and creatives gathered at 5 Dohme Avenue in Toronto for Session 9 of filltheBLNK which has quickly become one of the go-to spaces in Toronto for artists to network, showcase their talent, and test new music in a safe and welcoming environment.
On the heals of International Women’s Day, the filltheBLNK team used the occasion to celebrate up and coming female artists.
Holding down hosting duties was Muze CEO, Alina Guidu, who also brought an empowering message for women in the music industry.
Artists showcasing their work included Sasha Henry with her deep soulful vocals. Zene Soul impressed with her polished R&B sound as displayed on her single “Love Island”. With her vocals and overall sound, she’s definitely an artist to watch. M.I. Blue shared her unique style of R&B/Soul on top of percussion you’ve probably never heard before. With a style all her own and a clear vision for her artistry, M.I. Blue is an artist to get excited about.
Also blessing the stage were Dolo The Gifted and Mic Truth, who brought energy, bars and some Afro-Caribbean vibes to their performance; Jelly Too Fly, who showed off her impressive songwriting abilities, and the acoustic guitar playing Juno nominee, Aaron Ridge, who shared his unique brand of R&B.
The Session also provided Nycesound Production, who recently announced a new partnership with ARTium Records and Def Jam, with the opportunity to showcase their artists―Mississauga natives Mannie and Liyah Katana. Mannie set the stage with his smooth and velvety vocals, performing some of his solo material before being joined by his 143 bandmates. Then it was Liyah Katana’s turn as she effortless belted released and unreleased tracks. From her look to her vocals and demeanor, the “Slide” and “Believe Me” singer screams “star”.
As the evening drew to a close, filltheBLNK co-founder, Joel Naga announced upcoming sessions in Ottawa and Montreal as the Made in Toronto movement spreads across Canada.
Overall, the talent displayed at filltheBLNK was once again mindboggling and a testament to both the quality and quantity of talent in the Greater Toronto Area. At the same time, filltheBLNK continues to take its place as one of the leading spaces to spot the next up and coming Toronto talent.
