J Cole signs with Scarborough Shooting Stars of the CEBL in his second attempt at pro basketball. We have the full story.

Months after playing hoops overseas for Basketball Africa League’s Rwanda Patriots, North Carolina rapper, J. Cole, will be back on the hardwood very soon. This time he’s taking his talents north of the border to play for the CEBL’s Scarborough Shooting Stars. The CEBL took to their Instagram account to make the announcement.

In his pro basketball debut, Cole he averaged 1.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists in three games with the Patriots.

The Shooting Stars already has existing connection to hip-hop. One of the owners is Nicholas Carino, also known as “OVO Niko”, is one of the founding members of Drake’s OVO (October’s Very Own) imprint. Joining Carino as owner is Sam Ibrahim, founding member of The Playground.

The expansion Shooting Stars were announced last August as the first team in the GTA. At the time, the CEBL praised the pair for dreaming big.

“Both born and raised in Scarborough, Carino, and Ibrahim are honoured to promote the dream-big mentality and encourage the next generation of young dreamers to go after their goals. Together, they are working toward the shared objectives of creating immediate jobs and career pathways for young people to pursue their passions and expanding opportunities to grow the game of basketball.

With their recent signing, they have indeed dreamed big.

The Shooting Stars started training camp this week, making their CEBL debut on May 26.
