Musicheads across the country have waited with bated breath to find out who made the cut for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize. They can finally put their minds at ease.

Filled with both popular class acts and some of Canada’s best kept secrets, the Polaris Music Prize long list features 40 of the country’s best albums across a range of genres. Graced with familiar faces––from 2019 Polaris Prize winner Haviah Mighty to The Weekend, the list feels like a good balance of both underground talents and mainstream hitmakers.

The winner of the coveted Polaris Music Prize will walk away with $50,000 and the title of Canadian Album of the Year.  The projects are judged on criteria entirely focused on artistic merit, independent of record sales or genre.

Presented by Canada Council for the Arts and media partner CBC, 223 albums were considered for the Long List by 197 jury members. The winning album will be revealed on September 19th, 2022 at the Polaris Gala at The Carlu in Toronto. Tickets are available here.
