Yesterday, hip-hop recording artist and community leader, City Fidelia, and artist manager, Rebecca Dickson, announced the launch of the brand new FRMULA artist development program. Founded under the banner of the City Fidelia led non-profit Ensemble, the venture is the latest piece of infrastructure to hit Ottawa’s growing music scene.
Since moving back to the capital from Toronto in 2019, Fidelia has been hard at work adding to the creative fabric of the city, first co-founding the Real House of Ensemble recording studio alongside Abe Abadi and more recently taking on the role of Program Director at local radio station CHUO 89.1FM. Through the new program he plans on sharing the industry knowledge and contacts he acquired in his time away from the capital.
“New Artist development program coming into our city!”, Fidelia announced on Instagram. “I wake up everyday looking for new ways to build an infrastructure for artists. This is a start. Shout out to the team @ensemblenonprofit and @bbexyyy for making this possible. Applications coming soon!”
Dickson also took some time to share her excitement on the program.
“This is something City and I have been working very diligently to bring to life”, she explained. “We see the growth in the community and shared the vision to provide Ottawa with a safe space for creatives to build a network of resources to develop their careers. Special thank you to everyone involved in the process and everyone who’s been in my corner supporting me. Stay tuned for applications and more information!”
Prior to the official launch, Fidelia and Dickson will be putting the final touches on FRMULA, including assembling a roster of jurors who will advise on the final entrants into the program. Stay glued to the Ensemble Instagram account for news and updates on the new program.
