Montreal based hip-hop artist, Joji Redback, has been steadily gaining steam since the release of “Puerto”, the first single off his upcoming EP A Stranger Everywhere. Since its release, the track has already accumulated over 150K streams after being added to Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” playlist and has been added to over 3K user playlists. Now the French and Australian rapper is back with “STOP”, the next single off the previously mentioned project.

Although the song is an absolute banger, don’t get it twisted. Underneath the hard hitting drums baseline, Redback dives deep into some very serious and timely subject matter on the Sonj produced track. The single also comes with a music video, directed by Zackary Boulet, Guillaume Boulay, Joji Redback, which depicts Redback and his friends out drinking and having a good time. But are they really?

“The song discusses various themes such as addiction and peer pressure”, he explains. “I wrote this song with the underlying theme of how alcohol seems to be constantly present in social gatherings, and how it can be viewed as a necessity in order to enjoy ourselves.”

Whether it’s through his ability to effortlessly go back and forth between English and French, explore various genres, from trap, lofi, house music and boom-bap, or pair serious, thought-provoking content with club worthy production and modern flows, Redback’s music screams versatility. It’s this signature versatility and his ability to tackle hard topics like “alienation” that we expect to see in full display when his new project drops on February 19th, and we can’t wait.
