Today, R&B singer-songwriter Savannah Ré releases her latest single “Closure” from her upcoming EP No Weapon.
Two-time JUNO Award winning R&B singer-songwriter Savannah Ré is hitting us with a new single “Closure”. Following in the footsteps of the greatest women in R&B such as Jhené Aiko and Erykah Badu, Savannah is owning her power.
“Closure” follows hot on the heels of the steamy “About U” and allows Ré to show us a side we haven’t seen. She admitted herself “it became this hybrid of a bunch of different genres – something that I haven’t really made before.”
For an artist, experimenting with a fresh sound can be nerve-racking. She needed to have the right team, trusting long-time collaborators to ease the pressure of this release. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Boi-1da, JUNO Award winner YogiTheProducer and Kevinshideout, “Closure” blends Baile Funk percussion with dancehall and soca influences for an up-tempo track unlike anything Ré has released before.
Despite “Closure” having a summer energy, it arrives as the second release on this on her eagerly anticipated project “No Weapons”, due this upcoming fall.
“I tapped into my past for this one, especially on the voicemail in the beginning (that’s actually me),” Savannah shares. “‘Closure’ is about a relationship that has run its course, but you’re still enamored with this person and make the last-ditch effort to hold onto something that’s already gone. Even though it’s about toxicity, I wanted it to have an uplifting energy to it with tempo and bright sounds.”
“Closure” follows the narrative of the EP’s lead song “About U”, unveiled last month. This narrative being vulnerable and authentic, with dreamy vocals. It takes heaps of courage to be vulnerable, and Ré is unapologetically herself on this project. Besides, being herself has taken her this far.
As of recently, Savannah Ré went global as her face graced a Times Square billboard. She performed on the stage of the esteemed Toronto Jazz Festival and was given the title “Future of Black Music Artists” by Apple Music. After racking up accomplishments with hard work to support her talent, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
