Layla returns from tour to find life isn’t the same as she left it, and Cassius, KJ, and Khalil deal with bad news. Here’s our All American season 8 episode 1 (Hour 1) recap.

Jordan and Cassius friends?
Hour one starts with an emergency before we’re taken back six months to Beverly and South Crenshaw going head to head in a big game. Jordan and Cassius make peace, but still have a competitive relationship. While Layla has been away for six months on tour, Jordan and Cassius have become close, but their weekly hang out time is in jeopardy with Layla returning to town. Jordan can’t wait to have her back.
Cassius in jeopardy?
At Beverly, things aren’t on the up and up as the school’s principal, Ed London, gives a new mystery man a tour of the facilities.
Cassius decides to host a combine with South Crenshaw where NCAA Division 1 coaches can come see his players. When he decides to include South Crenshaw, Jordan isn’t exactly on board. Later, after talking to Khalil about his future, Jordan has a change of heart on the combine.
KJ and Khalil team up
KJ is locked in and going overboard in the gym to attract college offers. Tory thinks he needs someone to talk to and confides in Khalil. He heads over to Beverly to find KJ in the gym, but he isn’t happy to see him. KJ is concerned about his college prospects.
Later, Khalil is also having doubts about his college future with his SAT results looming, which has him in the gym. KJ and Khalil decide to work together.
KJ checks up on Amina and gives her a call.
Layla returns
Layla comes home for a few weeks to the latest edition of Jordan and Coops’ monthly “Smash & Crash” at the Baker house. She returns to find out Jordan now cooks and cleans, and that Jordan and Cassius have been playing basketball weekly for six months. Meanwhile, Layla was hanging out with Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Beyoncé for the past six months. When Khalil wants to talk to Jordan instead of her, Layla feels even more out of the loop.
Later, while talking to Coop at Layla’s, a mystery woman appears who is revealed as Tash Williams, Khalil’s mom.
