Sasha Ruddock of Flaws of Couture returns with her “The Uniform” Fall/Winter collection, her first collection in two years.
Toronto-based plus size designer, fashion Influencer, public speaker, and body positive activist, Sasha Ruddock, has made a name for herself over the years, both in Canada and abroad, for inspiring women to be proud of their bodies, no matter their size.
In 2021, she made noise by beating out 30 international designers to win SHEIN’s SHEIN X international design contest, walking away with $100,000 to invest in her inclusive clothing line Flaws of Couture, or simply FLAWS. She also walked away with a high-profile fan in celebrity judge Khloe Kardashian who noted, “I don’t think she’s going to let anyone else win this competition but her.”
Now she’s back with her first collection in two years which she calls “The Uniform”. Launched on September 1st, the predominantly unisex collection features a long sleeve dress, long sleeve shirt, bikini top, “Vegan Buttery” leather pant, high neck dress, box tee, long trench coat, and short jacket.
Ruddock took to Instagram to share her excitement about the collection.
“Can’t believe I’ve already been doing this for 13 years…This is by FAR the proudest I’ve been. This collection is a symbol of tenacity and perseverence. I’m SO EXCITED to share it with ya’ll.”
The FLAWS tagline is, “Where sustainability meets timeless design” and that’s evident in this collection. The pieces come in black, white, brown, and dark green, with timeless and minimalist designs. There’s an air of confidence and sexiness about the collection where women of all sizes can own their shape and show a little skin.
She took to Instagram again to announce that she had something coming for the men: a first for FLAWS.
“For YEARS men have pulled me aside, emailed me, texted me, tweeted me—just about EVERYTHING’D me—all to ask the famous question…”WHAT ABOUT US?!?! Well, IT’S HERE & you really have @michael_ethan to thank for it.”
Featured in the visuals for the collection are Ruddock’s father, Deddy Ruddock, and the face of the Deddy’s Kitchen YouTube channel, and Toronto hip-hop/Afrobeats artist EverythingOShauN, whom Ruddock called “the perfect muse”.
