Amina continues to hide a secret and Cassius has a kind of new love interest. Here’s our All American season 8 episode 2 recap. We tried to avoid any major spoilers.
It’s showcase day at West Beverly and things are a little hostile between KJ and Principal London. We then flashback to four days before the showcase to see what happened.
Cassius’ job
At West Beverly, Cassius tells Principal London that Sportscenter is going to be covering the showcase at the school. Principal London congratulates him on his hard work, but he’ still hiding something.
Later, Cassius tells KJ about his future plans with a kind of new love interest. He’s even looking at buying a house and making the move to Los Angeles permanent. But there’s looming trouble in paradise.
KJ to the rescue
Over in Crenshaw, Preach finds the house empty. Amina is at West Beverly dealing with an emergency, hopefully with KJ’s help. She needs him to help her to cover up a lie.
When KJ gets home, he finds Cassius is covering up a secret of his own.
Jordan gets offer of a lifetime
At the Baker house, Jordan is making breakfast for Layla. She invites him to come with her on tour to Europe for the honeymoon that they never had.
At West Beverly, Principal London meets with Jordan and gives him an offer that he hopefully can’t refuse. Back at home, Jordan shares the news with Layla.
Later, at school, Jordan confides in Preach that Principal London has made him an offer. Preach encourages him to choose family over opportunity.
He goes back to his dad’s old office to get some advice from Coach Baker. He meets up with Cassius to tell him about Principal London’s offer which he hasn’t accepted yet.
Amina’s emergency
Meanwhile, Amina is at Crenshaw to get some school advice from her former teacher Mrs. Perez when she bumps into Khalil. She encourages him to keep pushing forward. He listens and decides to keep trying to get into Stanford, despite some opposition.
She bumps into Preach and they have some well needed father-daughter time. She can’t tell him the truth about what’s happening at school in Ohio.
She decides to apply for a job at the Slauson Cafe. Her interview ends up being with Khalil’s girlfriend Miranda, which doesn’t go over well.
Khalil spirals
Later, Khalil and Miranda are hanging out at the Baker house. He’s stressed about his day and lets it slip that Amina is the only one who believes in him. She lets Khalil know about what happened at Amina’s interview.
At their workout, Khalil snaps at KJ for telling him to chill after pushing too hard. Khalil reads KJ’s body language and discovers Amina is hiding something. He goes straight to her house where she tells him about her school drama around the article she wrote.
He’s upset she didn’t share what’s been happening at school, but she’s also upset he barely reached out to her in the six months she was gone.
Back at Crenshaw, Khalil is getting a late night workout in. He’s angry that no one believes in him. Jordan encourages Khalil to fight for his dream. In the end, help comes after all.
KJ to the rescue, again
Amina arrives at KJ’s place. She can’t stand to let her father down. KJ encourages her to let The Vortex…her Village in.
Amina comes home and finds a gift from her father who continues to express how proud he is of how she’s doing at Dinsburg Boarding School. Heartbreaking stuff as her academic life weighs in the balance.
Overall, it’s a good episode where every character has their share of drama. Antonio J. Bell and Alexis Chikaeze were the stars of this episode with their performances. Someone please cast them in something else ASAP.
