Jordan tried to fill his dad’s shoes as the man of the house and Spencer hides his grief. Here’s our All American season 5 episode 14 recap.
The episode opens with Jordan talking about voids, holes and filling spaces. He is seen trying to fix the fridge in the early hours of the morning because of his inability to sleep. When Layla finds him, he tells her he found a to-do list from her dad. He’s trying to be the man of the house.
Laura is still finding her way
Laura is seen trying to write in her journal and then she quickly moves to making her coffee and sorting through some mail. When the girls come down they see Laura and begin eyeing each other. When Laura leaves, the girls talk to Liv about how Mrs. Baker has been behaving. They feel she’s treating them like kids and moving important items which is throwing them off.
Of course, Liv defends her mom as she recognizes she’s processing her own grief. However, she does agree they could find away to include her as a roommate in the house and invite her to the massage session they have booked before Patience’s music video premiere.
Later, Liv talks to her mom trying to ease the conversation and Laura is upset but she later realizes why she’s behaving the way she is and how she can now turn the page in her story.
Patience is back in the spotlight
Patience is making sure every detail is set for the premiere of her video “Fire and Ice”, but balances it with some me time. She heads to Slauson and sees superfan Miko who she’s clearly trying to avoid. Miko said she had gotten the message to not bother her when Patience unfollowed her but she’s clearly not over it. She talks about the day one fans being left out of this new image.
Later, a huge bouquet shows up at the Bakers’ from Miko and the ‘Vortex’ another turn off for Patience. Patience speaks to Layla and Gia about a plan to reach her original fans―a plan she got from Miko. Layla is concerned because she knows this connection is not good for Patience’s mental health, but then Gia agrees with the plan because of the large following. Later, at the premiere, Gia realizes that the bouquet was just sitting outside meaning Miko knows where Patience lives.
Spencer continues to Spiral
Grace is back working to find a tenant for the house and finishing some work at South Crenshaw High. She talks to Spencer who was away with her for the past week in Oakland trying to decompress, but that hasn’t worked. He accompanies her to the school where we see a blast from his past. Kia returns offering him a chance to relax with his old crew. Spencer offers his mom’s house for the kickback. He then goes over to AD Barnes to tell him he’s leaving. Jordan is there and is taken aback by the news.
Back at Grace’s house, the room is full of people playing and hanging out. Frausto shows up talking about being done with college ball and drinking liquor. Spencer takes it from him and begins drinking. He’s getting a little cocky when Uncle Flip shows up and questions him about what’s happening at GAU. Spencer couldn’t care less citing he’s out of it and adults needs to handle that. Flip tries to remind Spence of who he is―always standing up for his own and Spencer practically kicks him out. Later Spencer is confronted by both Frausto and Kia who call him out on what he’s not doing―dealing with his grief.
Jordan is searching for his way
Jordan meets with AD Barnes who blindsides him into a press conference where he announces that Jordan is the future of GAU football and that Billy was to be head coach. Jordan is torn because he hates being put in this position and doesn’t feel he can make the right decision. He tries to work on more household items and that doesn’t end well. Liv encourages him to reach out to Spencer to get his take on the GAU situation as a way to check on him and he does but Spencer ignores him.
He later shows up at the kickback to talk to Spencer but Spencer couldn’t be bothered and Jordan is upset that their friendship has come to such a broken point.
Back at the Baker house, the fridge that was once fixed is leaking again and it’s too much for Jordan. He explains to his mom that he’s trying to fix things and nothing is working. Laura tells him that he is exactly like Billy and that she would often have to call someone to come in and help. Jordan feels a weight lifted off his shoulders and finds Layla at the premiere. She tells him about the times Billy would just listen to her when she needed and allow her to find herself. Jordan realizes what he needs to do and upon rushing out of the event, Layla tells him she loves him, He runs back to her saying the same. Jordan has found his voice, shares his plan with the team and begins to leave his own legacy. He is later seen at his father’s grave telling him about filling the voids and finding the help he needed. Knowing his father is proud, Jordan seems at peace.
