Pixel Heller
Pixel Heller is a Trinidadian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist whose work touches performance, photography, textiles, ceramics, and painting. The OCAD University graduate draws from her Caribbean roots with themes of Black identity, cultural preservation and carnival masquerade.
Her work as an artist and dancer has been seen at Gallery 44, MCA Gallery, Meridian Arts Center, The Wedge Collection, Sankofa Square, Gallery 1313, ROM, Artist Project, BMO Field, and the Waterloo Region Museum, and internationally at the Black Brazil Art Biennial.
“My work is inspired by the Moko Jumbie, a traditional stilt-walking character deeply rooted in West African spirituality and Caribbean carnival culture. I traveled to Tobago to connect with local Moko Jumbies, and through this piece, I explore how they embody protection, resilience, and the continuation of ancestral traditions.” Pixel Heller
