Lorenzo comes clean to Monet and Tariq and Effie travel to Italy on a special assignment. Here’s our Power Book II Ghost Season 3 Episode 5 review.
The twists and turns continue as the web of lies built up over the past four episodes begin to unfold.
The Tejadas are dealing with the aftermath of Detective Whitman (Jeff Hephner)‘s murder as the investigation is underway at their home. Before Davis leaves the house, Monet agrees that her suspicions about Lorenzo were premature.
Tariq confirms to Monet (Mary J. Blige) that IG didn’t kill Zeke (Daniel Bellomy) as he was in the Dominican Republic. When Monet circles back with Cane (Woody McClean) he reveals it was Lorenzo who told him it was IG, once again raising suspicions.
With her mourning Zeke’s murder and seeking a clean conscience, Monet tells Frank’s wife, Evelyn (Lauren Vélez), that Lorenzo (Berto Colon) put out a hit on him when he learned he snitched.
In the end Lorenzo comes clean with Money which not only threatens their future together, but potentially his life.
Meanwhile, Weston Holdings is holding a meeting with RSJ (Gbenga Akinnagbe) about investing in an Italian investment. When Lucas Weston (David Walton) looks to leave Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) at home instead of making the trip to Italy, RSJ elects to leave Lucas at home and take Keke (Moriah Brown), Brayden, and Tariq who speaks Italian and who he has clearly taken a liking to, instead.
Tariq proves valuable when he learns information in class about the Italian company that’s valuable to RSJ’s negotiations.
Tariq and Effie (Alix Lapri) are enjoying a dinner date in Italy when an unexpected someone shows up with a special assignment for the young couple. Unfortunately, the assignment risks Brayden’s life.
Interview with Cooper Saxe actor, Shane Johnson
Meanwhile, Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) finds a constitutional violation in the Theo Collins case that could get him out of jail. When Davis (Method Man) goes to tell Theo, Saxe snoops around and finds Davis is holding valuable information. Saxe’s snooping around unearths more valuable information as people are beginning to discover that Lauren (Paige Hurd) is, in fact, alive.
With Tariq’s navigating of the corporate world and his ability to slyly navigate life threatening situations, it’s clear that his boasting of being smarter than his father is true. With his journey taking him and Effie to Italy, they ascend to levels not seen by Ghost (Omari Hardwick) and Tasha (Naturi Naughton). The episode also sees the pair winning the trust of Noma (Caroline Chikezie) which means bigger assignments and responsibilities.
This episode proves that you can’t get attached to any character on a crime drama like Power Book II: Ghost as the plot twists and deaths are frequent.
As more characters learn that Lauren is alive it sets up a new conflict between Tariq and his friends as he questions who he can really trust. Overall, it was a highly entertaining and well-written episode.
Power Book II: Ghost airs every Friday on Starz.
