SHIFTER’s Kevin Bourne attended the Twisted Metal season two set visit hosted by Sony Pictures Entertainment in Toronto. Here’s a behind the scenes look.
SHIFTER had the opportunity to attend a set visit for season two of Twisted Metal hosted by Sony Pictures Entertainment in Toronto. Media from all over the world, including Spain, Poland, the United States, and the UK, were in attendance as we spent a day at the soundstage at Downsview Park. Filming moved to Toronto for season two after they encountered weather issues while filming season one in New Orleans.

Twisted Metal set visit
When we arrived, Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz were shooting a scene on the garage set. During their break in filming, journalists conducted sit down Q&A’s with series stars Mackie, Beatriz, Anthony Carrigan, and wrestler Samoa Joe, as well as director Phil Sgriccia and stunt coordinator David Barrett.
We were then given a tour of wardrobe and a Q&A with costume designer, Liz Vastola. We also got a chance to see some of the shows most popular pieces, including Sweet Tooth’s mask.
We were also given a tour of the mechanic/body shop where they worked on and stored the shows many vehicles, including Sweet Tooth’s ice cream truck and John Doe’s modified orange 2002 Subaru WRX, aka Evelyn.
The day ended with a tour of the garage set where Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz were shooting a scene earlier that day.

Season two synopsis
Set seven months after the end of season one, season two finds John (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), and other familiar faces, competing in the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, hosted by a new mysterious character by the name of Calypso (Anthony Carrigan). Complicating things even more is John’s reunion his long-lost sister turned vigilante, Dollface (Tiana Okoye).
For Mackie, season two does a job of building on season one. When asked about how season two differs from season one, especially when it comes to the action scenes, he noted, “This season is definitely bumped up from season one…The writing room did a great job with the scripts, justifying what the tournament was. The cast is really amazing and everybody is here open-minded and being exciting to be a part of it. The cars are crazy. Season one was really fun; it was a really good show and a really good starting point for the show because there’s nothing like this on TV. I think, every season you want to build on the season before, and this season definitely builds on season one.”
For Beatriz, season two provides an opportunity to delve deeper into the characters.
“She [Quiet] is really getting to more and more this season, which I think you’re going to see in this season, which is very exciting”, she explained. “The first season was very much about establishing the game characters in the show. Second season is introducing so many more characters and also their looks, which I think is a great thing about this game, and also a part the fun of video game play, and it’s also a part of the fun of seeing ensemble work together.”
