Youth and industry leaders gathered at the Pinball Clemons Foundation You(th) Lead Conference for a time of networking and mentorship.
This past Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, industry leaders from diverse fields joined 100 marginalized and racialized youths at Hotel X Toronto for a day of networking, inspiration, and connection at the Pinball Clemons Foundation You(th) Lead Conference. The youth, who are enrolled in various post-secondary and certificate programs funded by the foundation, have been provided with full bursaries, books, tech, and mentorship to ensure they avoid accumulating student debt. In return, they agree to attend bi-weekly and one-on-one mentorship sessions and maintain a B average.
The event opened with speed mentoring sessions which saw executive-level industry leaders connect with two to three youths every 20 minutes offering professional advice. The career mentorship team work with each student to do resume audits and interview preparation, guaranteeing that each graduate has a career placement within 45 days of graduation.
After lunch, the youth attended industry panels where industry professionals shared their journeys to success and answered questions from those in attendance. Panelists included etalk’s Tyrone Edwards, GlobatlTV’s Miranda Anthistle and Tracy Tong, rapper D.O., media personality/entrepreneur Jesse Jones, and SHIFTER’s very own Kevin Bourne, aka KB The Boss,
