    Love triangles abound and Amina runs for student council president. Here’s our All American Season 7 Episode 5 recap.

    This episode centers around Amina as she runs for student council and organizes a meal packing drive, all while dreading the anniversary of her mother’s birthday. With Jordan and Layla in Napa as a part of their investigation into his long lost uncle, this episode was almost all teen drama, and it was well done. We also see Amina and Toru meet for the first time as the love triangle drama is taken to new heights.

    Now, let’s take a closer look at what went down on All American Season 7 Episode 5.

    Playoffs approach

    Both Crenshaw and Beverly have found their groove as they inch closer towards making the playoffs. After helping to turn around the team, KJ has garnered a lot of attention from the girls at school. Tori helps him out by grabbing his arm and making the girls think that he’s taken. KJ has plans to watch game film after school, but Tori tries to convince him to take a break from football.

    At Beverly, KJ and Cassius have a father-son “date” with some hickory ribs, but KJ has another idea. He suggests they feed the volunteers at Crenshaw’s, specifically Amina’s, meal packing drive. Cassius’ jealousy and paranoia rears their ugly head again as he asks if this is an attempt to get closer to Jordan Baker.

    Khalil stands on his own

    Meanwhile, Khalil and his dad, Marqui, are at The Hangout. Khalil is apprehensive since he didn’t not to gangbang with his father during last week’s episode, but Marqui respects his decision. After checking the time, Khalil finally tells his father he wants to go to the meal packing drive at school before the doors are locked. Marqui respects the fact that he’s changing and wants to volunteer.

    Amina’s drive

    At Crenshaw, they’re getting ready for the meal packing drive. Preach congratulates the organizers and student council candidates, including Amina, for their work. He doesn’t tell the class who to vote for, but cautions them to not vote against Amini. After class, she says he might have cost her some votes with that threat and that she wants to run a clean campaign. He, in turn, wants to know why she’s dozing off in class. As she’s leaving the class, we can see that there’s something she isn’t telling Preach.

    Coop shows up with some ‘Vote Amina’ election pins, but she isn’t having it. All of a sudden there’s commotion in the hallway as rapper Boss Boy Drew pulls up in support of another candidate. Khalil approaches and agrees with Coop about the buttons, but Amina is mad he’s finally acknowledging her. Amina is also apprehensive about doing her speech later that day during the drive since it’s the anniversary of her mother’s death. Before Coop leaves, Preach bugs her about her preoccupation with her professor.

    During the drive, Preach and Cassius meet for the first time as Preach asks for some ribs. Things get tense when Marqui breaks into the school. Cassius wants to know if there’s a problem and Marqui recognizes him.

    In the fitness center, Preach asks Khalil what his beef is with Amina. He’s trying to keep the trouble Khalil and Marqui are into away from Amina.

    Later, Amina tells KJ that the next is her mother’s birthday. They bond over the loved ones they’ve lost. Amina is sad that her mom didn’t get to right her wrongs and redeem her name.

    To close out the meal packing drive, Amina gave her student council election speech about her mom’s legacy of helping people. Khalil approaches Amina to apologize for forgetting about the anniversary of her mom’s birthday and for not being there for her. She accepts his apology and all is well.

    The Love triangle

    As they arrive at Crenshaw, Cassius finally gets to see Amina. He bothers him about his “just friend”. KJ goes to talk to Amina, but she doesn’t seem to be okay. The approaching anniversary of her mother’s murder is weighing on her.

    All of a sudden, Tori comes in. It turns out her cousin attends Crenshaw. Well, it’s a lie. After Tori and Amina get introduced, setting up a love triangle, we learn that Tori just wants to get up close and personal with KJ…in a storage closet. Unfortunately, KJ isn’t feeling it and she wonders if he’s gay.

    Khalil finds Tori in the hallway trying to find a way out of the school. He wants to know who has her so stressed. KJ and Amina pushing them away may have led them to each other. Things get more complicated when Khalil and Tori find KJ with his arm around Amina, consoling her.

    Amina finds KJ and they both want to talk. KJ wants to say something, but he let’s her speak first. She lets him know that them talking made Khalil jealous. She asks KJ to be her fake boyfriend to keep making Khalil jealous. He agrees and doesn’t bother to share what he wanted to say (possibly that he likes her).

    Later, Khalil and KJ run into each other in private. Khalil wants to know what KJ said to make Amina cry. KJ denies making her cry, so Khalil asks if it was him who made her cry. KJ is surprised to know he cares. KJ questions if he and Amina are really just family or if there’s more. He tells Khalil that if he really cares he should ask Amina what’s going on instead of asking him. When KJ bumps into his dad, Cassius asks him about his love triangle with the two girls.

    Coop + the professor sitting in the tree

    Coop attends her lecture and asks her professor if she has time to answer more questions after class. In the professor’s office, we learn that she was stood up for a blind date with a woman. They decide to continue talking with the caveat that they have a drink together. Things are about to get cozy.

    Coop visits Crenshaw after her time with her professor and Preach can see that she’s been drinking. He’s concerned about a teacher drinking with her student and warns Coop to watch out.

    All American airs Mondays at 8pm on the CW.
