Two years after her last single and 13 years after her last album, Jully Black returns with her laid back yet fiery new single “No Relation”.
It’s a been long time since Canada’s Queen of R&B dropped a full-length album (13 years to be exact) and two years since her single “Mi No Fraid”. She’s kept herself busy in recent years as a radio host and more recently as a correspondent on ET Canada, and as the founder of the fitness and health community 100 Strong & Sexy. Now the 2021 Canada’s Walk of Fame inductee has gone back to her musical roots with her new track “No Relation”, the first single off her upcoming album. According to Black, “It’s sultry and sexy, it’s an ‘enough-is-enough’ BANGER!”
With its bouncy chords, the reggae infused track tells the story of a woman who is done playing around with her man, knowing she deserves better.
No more flippin’ doors for you
No more fallin’ through for you
No more island fool for you
Don’t care what you like, you are the type
Don’t care what you like, you think you’re bright
I think I’m through
The Jolie Adele directed music video reveals a sexy yet no-non sense Jully Black, with wavy hair and cleavage, surrounded by dancers wearing suits. The minimalist video exudes strength and tells a story of independence as we see symbols like power tools and money.
With the continued popularity of island vibes and Afrobeats, and Canada’s increased influence in the world of R&B, the door is wide open for Jully Black to make another push in her career and we’re here for it.
“No Relation” is available on all major streaming platforms.
