Ottawa-born and now Toronto-based artist, Vi, is back with “Victim”, the first single off her forthcoming EP After Life set to be released later this year. While she has featured on a number of songs in recent years, including her most recent collaboration with Denver, Colorado based duo Stillo, the single marks her first solo release in two years.
On the moody and introspective track produced by JayOnTheJuice and Txpski, Vi speaks of still being under her former love’s spell, despite everything they put her through, and her need to finally let go.
“Feel distant and cold, with your hands around my throat. Reaching down to take my soul. I thought I loved it but I don’t.”
After listening to the song we’re reminded of how much of a special talent the Qatar-raised artist is and how much her and her unique sound were sorely missed.
Vi initially drew attention with her debut EP Blackwater, released in 2018, which ultimately landed her on CTV’s nationally televised singing competition show The Launch. In her relatively short career she has already racked up a few of big wins, from working with legendary producer Ryan Tedder and opening for multi-platinum artist Bülow, to earning over 3 million streams so far on various music platforms.
“Victim” is available on all major streaming platforms.
