After a successful inaugural event in 2022, the who’s who of Black entertainment gathered at History for the 2023 Legacy Awards. Hosted by Keshia Chante and executive produced by Shamier Anderson and Stephan James, the ceremony will see some of Canada’s finest talents, in music, film & TV and sports honoured by the Black Academy.
WNBA superstar, Kia Nurse, received the 2023 Legacy Athlete Award, Jully Black received the Icon Award, LU KALA took home the Emerging Artist Award, Julien Christian Lutz (known as Director X) received the Trailblazer Award, and Tonya Williams went home with the Visionary Award for her 50-year contribution to film and TV.

As a celebration of Black excellence, the Legacy Awards have quickly become a must for Black Canadians in the industry and anyone who appreciate Black culture. The Black community have never been as seen and as comfortable to be themselves on national TV as they are now and we have the Black Academy, CBC and Insight Productions to thank.
