Ottawa’s hip-hop scene is continuously growing to make moves that matter. Community is in full effect and we see that more and more as we look around at the blooming artists ready to take initiative. This is especially true when local hip-hop artist, Mischa, decided to put together a hip-hop meets visual arts fundraiser for the endangered wildlife in Australia.
The wildfires have been blazing since September 2019. This has killed as many as 1.25 billion animals, 26 people, destroyed over 2,000 homes and scorched 4.9 million hectares of land. This is where “Fighting Fire with Fire”, comes into play. When she heard just how tragic the wildfires were and the impact on the land in Australia, she knew she had to take a stand. “We have one planet, we make it, if we all make it” – Mischa.
Overflow Brewery has graciously opened their doors to hold this event on Saturday February 8th, 2020. This will be a night filled with live hip-hop, dance performances by MOOV Ottawa, live visual arts courtesy of Artwork by Emilie, as well as a collaboration from Bangin’ Balloons and Falldowng and last but not least, a silent auction with contributions from wonderful Ottawa local brands.
This events lineup is filled with hip-hop and R&B performances from some of the city’s top artists including Capé, Chris Keez, Dip Black, Dominique Gorley, Dustin Wareham, Hevve, Mischa, NTHN, Queennyy, Timal Garnier and Vante Poems. Hosted by Dynamic, aka Ya Favourite Lightskin, and music by MusicbyJayel.
It is also being supported from local businesses and brands such as SHIFTER, Flee Normality, Ottawa Special Events, Curly Hair Designs, Dreamland Studios, PapePac Canada, Platinum Tattoos Art Studio and many more.
FFWF is projected to raise over $2,000 in funds which will be donated to NSW Wildlife Rescue, WIRES, where the animals who have had to suffer through this tragedy will get the love and care they deserve.
