The Summer vibes are here as Blue Will teams up with Jamaican artist Sadike on the “Not Love?!” remix. SHIFTER’s Rose Basu takes a closer look.
While Canada is just beginning to experience sunny weather, Carnival season is in full effect. Jamaica just finished its carnival with the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival just around the corner.
Trinidadian-Canadian artist Blue Will and Jamaican artist Sadike are bringing some Caribbean vibes of their own, collaborating on the remix for “Not Love?!”.
Blue Will ventured all the way from Toronto to Jamaica to meet with Sadike to capture the anticipation of carnival. The music video encapsulates the vibes perfectly and showcases how close these two artists have become with their clear onscreen bond. Furthermore, the color palette is invigorating, highlighting the atmosphere of Jamaica. It’s not often that music videos seem authentic and raw, yet, with “Not Love” even through a screen, you feel like you’re a part of the good vibes.
There is a stark contrast between the bonfire beach party scenes and the contemporary hypnotic moments. One commenter said it reminded them of Rihanna’s “If It’s Lovin’ That You Want” video. That’s not a stretch since Rihanna is one of Blue Will’s inspirations. She’s been able to take this influence and create a aesthetic and style that’s all her own.
Sadike adds the perfect edge to the song and it’s clear these musicians have brought their best to the table. Nonetheless, Blue Will knows there’s farther to go in her career. She has been working on her upcoming debut album and still finding ways to engage fans while crafting her project . We can’t wait to see what’s next.
