In all honesty, I went into the P!nk concert with very low expectations. I didn’t really know if I was going to enjoy this one at all given the fact that it’s not really my favourite type of music. Nevertheless, I left my expectations at the door and, as any critic or reporter should do, I decided to go in with an open mind. And boy was it worth it.
The first thing that hit me was the fact that P!nk is an amazing performer. Flawless even. The energy that she brought to the stage was so transferable. Halfway through the show Mother Nature decided not to cooperate. It started to pour and P!nk offered to stop the show unless her fans wanted her to keep going. Sure enough, the crowd roared, quite literally, and P!nk went on to continue what turned out to be one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
There’s something romantic, artistic and even epic about the timing of the storm. She had just started performing some of her country songs alongside singer/musician Dallas Green. Somehow, the mood turned out perfectly and matched her style flawlessly.
It’s also at the moment that something pretty revealing hit me- P!nk was a very important part of my childhood. As she started performing her classic hits, a part of me felt nostalgic as I remembered her hit songs from the early 2000’s, like Get the Party Started and Sober. Surprisingly I found myself singing along at the top of my lungs, to the dismay of those who were standing around me. Most of that is due to the fact that P!nk’s vocals are extremely powerful live.
And regardless of her 20+ years as an artist, she sounded just like she did back in the early 2000’s, sending me right back to a pool filled with high school memories.
Another thing to note is that P!nk is incredibly versatile. Because she constantly switches styles throughout her discography, she takes her time setting the mood for whatever style or genre she is going for next. So even though the music you get at the beginning of the show sounds very different from the music you get at the end, you will feel compelled to sing along, dance, scream at the top of your lungs and have an amazing time.
I can tell you with full confidence that P!nk was definitely a highlight for me. I love being pleasantly surprised and had what little expectations I came with absolutely blown out the water. If anything, I have a new found respect for the artist and am looking forward to her coming back to town. Hats off to P!nk.
