Toronto R&B/soul artists Nicole Chambers and Leila Dey are turning up our thermostats with their steamy new single, “Runnin From Love”.
Unequically two of Toronto’s most gifted vocalists and R&B singer-songwriters, Nicole Chambers and Leila Dey have united for a neo-soul masterpiece. “Runnin’ From Love” perfectly captures the inhibitions new lovers feel when they are in their “butterflies” stage. Feelings unfold, eventually leading to the decision to finally settle down and allow love to take over. A match made in heaven, the two songbirds are in perfect harmony as they bring some cocoa butter-draped opulence to the jazzy soundscape.
Speaking about discovering a sacred space in love, Chambers details, “It’s easy to run away from our feelings instead of facing them head on, and allowing yourself to be completely vulnerable with someone can be a challenge. ‘Runnin’ From Love’ is about me releasing my guard and letting a new love in. In this song, I explore what it’s like to feel safe and secure with someone who honours my mind, body and soul. Someone who gives me a new perspective on love and life.”
Beautifully articulated, Chambers explores the feeling of finally feeling safe in the arms of a steadfast love, singing:
“Runnin’ from love runnin’ runnin’ runnin’ ohhh, but you was always catching up.
It’s the way you make me feel safe,
Now I’m grounded yes you’ve planted a seed in my mind Not every love is toxic yah,
Not everyone is out to take and never willing to give”
Detailing about the collaboration with Leila Dey, she details: “I was truly grateful that myself, DviousMindz and Leila Dey finally got to collaborate on a track together. This song was produced by DviouszMindz and features Toronto’s R&B Songstress Leila Dey. Her silky vocals and rich tone truly enhance the vibe of this love song.”
Dey, who is fresh off a recent show with Jessie Reyez, brings those signature feels and pitch-perfect vocals. Complementing Chambers’ timbre divinely, the two bring some much-needed warmth to our December. Over a single-textured drum loop and faint horns, there is no need for flashy production on “Runnin’ From Love”. Chambers’ and Dey’s buttery smooth vocals are all it takes to transport their listeners into an oasis of celestial bliss.
