Ottawa hip-hop artist, Mischa, is back with “Woke Up”, a brand new banger to help us usher in the spring/summer season. Produced by Quest of Dreamland Studios and mixed and mastered by Carde Blanche, the uptempo production features a heavy baseline and a bouncy “pop rap” drum pattern reminiscent of big bangers like Kodak Black’s “ZEZE” and Tyga’s “Taste”.
As Mischa raps ‘Woke up feelin’ like it’s 2017,’ she hints at “being fed up with people who no longer serve you continuing to come back for more of the energy you retain”, she explains.
Appearing on the track is fellow Ottawa area artist, Baëbe Ruth, who has been creating her own buzz as of late in the capital. Between their flow, word play and hard hitting delivery, the two pair together very well on this track. Together, they provide some strong girl power while giving us some of that good old braggadocious hip-hop energy.
Now, you say you on the low
But you singin’ the high key
Do the right thing and I ain’t talkin’ ’bout Spike Lee
Might fuck around and make you my opponent
Spur of the moment number 10, DeRozan
Keep your final words unspoken
I like it like that, slow motion
Mischa has obviously grown and evolved since the release of her 2019 album Like, Whoa. While we’ve been introduced to Mischa the emcee and vocalist on her previous releases, on the new single she reveals her potential for mainstream success given the right support and production.
“Woke Up” is available on all major streaming platforms.
