A few Ottawa artists released new music videos in October, including Sammy Keys, Belly, A.M x Chafic, City Fidelia, Timal Garnier, Gutta Rock x KB Westwood and NayBarr. Here’s our Ottawa music video roundup for October according to release date. Let us know in the comments if there are any videos from any genre we forgot.
Sammy Keys
Keys
Release date: October 4, 2018
Directed by: Rohit (@kid.roh) and RJ (@instarj)
Sammy Key’s video for Keys already has 13,000 views and climbing in less than a month and it’s easy to see why. The song is fire. It has a laid back groove, catchy hook and a great melody. Downtown Ottawa, the Supreme Court and the Gatineau shorline make appearances in the video.
Eva Shaw feat. Omar Kadir and City Fidelia
NT NT
Release date: October 10, 2018
Directed by: Eva Shaw and Henry Lipatov
This isn’t strictly an Ottawa video but there’s an Ottawa connection as it features City Fidelia. It’s inspirational to see how far City Fidelia has come in recent years.
Belly
Xion
Release date: October 11, 2018
Okay, this is a lyric video but it’s basically a music video and the first one since the release of his latest album Immigrant. In the video we see Belly in a L.A. parking garage wearing his Immigrant t-shirt and matching hat. Pretty good for a lyric video which is why it’s been added to our roundup.
A.M x Chafic
My Girl
Release date: October 11, 2018
Directed by: Ben Telford Visuals and A.M (Eemedia)
Ottawa’s love affair with Afro-Caribbean vibes continues with A.M x Chafic’s My Girl. The video and concept for My Girl are pretty simple, which isn’t a bad thing, but the cinematography and direction were very well done. The first twenty seconds are pretty breathtaking. Throw in some beautiful dancers and you got yourself a good video.
Gutta Rock x KB Westwood
Westside
Release date: October 25, 2018
Directed by: Amissi
Blunts, Henny and Haitian flags. In their video for Westside Gutta Rock x KB Westwood offer us a song and video “about life in the westside Ottawa’s inner city” according to their YouTube channel. This is a side of Ottawa a lot of people don’t get a chance to see.
Timal Garnier
Mon Âme
Release date: October 31, 2018
Directed by: Goat Vision Studios
Here we have Timal Garnier, an artist from across the river in Gatineau. The video is set in Ottawa’s Byward Market and features fellow SND * TRK members Quest, Hevve, Tricky, Nika, Loic, and Talk to the Mike. Canada’s capital region has some good French hip-hop artists and Timal Garnier is another one to look out for.
NayBarr
Behind Barr
Release date: October 31, 2018
Directed by: Banzo Films
This song is influenced by Drake’s Behind Barz freestyle. True to the Behind Barz influence, the video has a simple concept―NayBarr and his boys hanging out in the studio as well as out in the street.
KingCon
Been There Done That
Release date: October 31, 2018
Directed by: Nock Nock
Been There Done That is a Halloween themed video where KingCon appears as The Joker. KingCon says of the theme, “this song/video is about repping your city properly witch helps you run the scene properly…..support one another…..and build unity and stop disrespecting where u live …or live somewhere else…..” Well said.
